Louise Bridge
Type of Project:
Repaint 663 ft. long steel thru truss two-lane bridge.
Project Description:
Totally remove existing lead-based paint on the structure, clean and apply new protective coating.
Reason project was undertaken:
Existing paint system was failing and development of crevice corrosion and pack rust were reducing the load capacity of the bridge.

Surface Preparation: Methods, degree of cleaning, profile:
Sand blast to SSPC - SP6 with 2 mil profile
Coating application methods, equipment:
Airless spray and brush.
Coating system, number of coats, dry film thickness per coat, etc.:
Single coat, 10 mils DFT of Termarust 2100 (RAVCS®) Primer/Topcoat on all surfaces.
Safety and Environmental Protection Measures:
Platform and side tarps were erected. No lead program.
Unusual Job conditions:
An unmanageable number of pigeons contaminated the blast with feces. Eventually had to eliminate pigeons.
Evidence of good performance:
A five-year warranty that included pack rusted joints and connections. Warranty expired with no warranty claim against Termarust.
Why Termarust was used.
Termarust and the contractor provided a 5-year warranty on leakage from pack rusted joints and connections and a minimum 25-year coating system service life.
