Type of Project:
Structural rehabilitation of two-lane thru truss bridge and application of improved steel coating system.
Project Description:
The deck truss system was sand blasted and painted over a 3-year period with special emphasis on structure critical pack rusted joints and connections.
Reason project was undertaken:
To restore structural load capacity, stop crevice corrosion and pack rust, and apply long lasting protective coating to the steel.

Redwood Bridge located over the Red River on Redwood Blvd., between Henderson Highway and Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

SSPC -SP 6, 2 mil profile
Coating application methods, equipment:
Airless spray
Coating system, number of coats, dry film thickness per coat, etc.:
Wet coat Termarust 2200 (RAVCS®) Penetrant Sealer in all joints and connections. Single coat, 10 mils DFT of Termarust 2100 (RAVCS®) Primer/Topcoat on all surfaces.
Safety and Environmental Protection Measures:
Free blasting before lead rules were in effect.
Unusual Job conditions:
Different levels of surface preparation were tested to establish a balance between cost and performance.
Evidence of good performance:
After 10 years, the coating is stable in pack rusted joints and connections.
Why Termarust was used:
Termarust and the contractor provided a 5-year warranty on leakage from pack rusted joints and connections and a minimum 25-year coating system service life.
